Hello from a snowy weekend here in Brooklyn!
What are you up to this weekend? I’m looking forward to reconnecting with friends at a long overdue proper Lunar New Year’s dinner at some cavernous dim sum palace in Chinatown like Golden Unicorn. 🦄
Good friends, chosen family. Long noodles, long life. 🍜
Meanwhile, life springs eternal on the grungy subway platforms. 💐

⏰ Saving Time: Discovering a Life Beyond the Clock by Jenny Odell. Whose inner clock hasn’t been distorted by the pandemic? Intellectual optimist Odell offers us different ways to experience time, different rhythms of life inspired by pre-industrial cultures, ecological cues, and geological timescales.
Watching
💔 Lover Stalker Killer. (A) The number of times my jaw dropped, rehinged, dropped again. Of course, my partner guessed whodunit less than 10 minutes into this W I L D 90-minute true crime. Bonus for the midwestern noir cinematography. Netflix.
🇵🇷 This is Me… Now. (B) After reading this J.Lo article (Variety), we took the plunge and invested the full hour into this visual album. There’s so much hate for it on TikTok and the media, but they need to leave J.Lo alone! We loved the choreography, the all-women steampunk heart fantasy, the Zodiacal love council, the tributes to Puerto Rican mythology and Nuyorican culture and just letting J.Lo J.Lo. She shines in a solo dance finale, dancing in the rain in the Bronx, a hummingbird, a woman in love. Amazon Prime.

With Brooke Light’s Charlote, NC photo studio, I’ll Smile if I Want To. I’ve never seen children’s portraits like this — powerful.

❤️🩹 When’s the last time an album truly healed you? Jon Batiste’s World Music Radio is a sweeping optimist anthem for the world, a visionary and uplifting work of art, each track takes you on a galactic journey, effortlessly weaving world jams from gospel to improv jazz to Latin trap to Afropop to Catalonian folk to K-pop idols to Colombian pop stars.
P.S. I’ve been holding Friday mentoring office hours with Asians in Advertising if you know anyone who’d like to schedule a session. ☕️
Spread love,
