Motivation Monday #6: Portals to Other Worlds, Where the Streets Have New Names

Where You’ll Find Me This Week

👻 Still going on creepy adventures to otherworldly portals with the Randonautica app (details in this week’s mini-podcast).

🎮 Judging Session 2 of Indoor Recess, in founder Jiamen (Maggie) Peng’s words:

“a virtual advertising competition where students tackle a brief over 2 weeks with help from industry mentors, speakers and judges. Inspired by the wave of internship cancellations and recent grads facing an incredibly tough job market, we wanted to create something for students to showcase during this ‘gap’ on their resume. Running in 3 sessions this summer, we've already had 400+ applicants for session 1 and 200+ mentors/judges. Our first client is Color of Change, the nation's largest online racial justice organization!”

👾 The Session 2 agency sponsor is Laundry Service and the client project is… Twitch! Wanna be a judge too? Signup link here.

Where The Streets Have New Names

In downtown Brooklyn’s Borough Hall, Joralemon Street is co-named Black Lives Matter Boulevard, a cultural and semiotic victory for new names and new representation.

Postcard of the Week

Glacier National Park, Montana. A point of view with some perspective from one of my favorite #vanlife travel photographers @e.mcgrady:

'No regrets.' I used to say that a lot and I Iived my life in a way that was, when I look back on it now, pretty self serving and just chasing one fun thing with another. These days, yeah, I do have regrets. I wish I'd done a better job of learning about history, how to be a better ally, a better listener and that I'd had the courage to use my voice when I saw something that wasn't right. When I was a kid I learned to blend in and found a way to move pretty easily in predominantly white spaces. Heck, I've even had people tell me they don't think of me as Asian but as white. The weird part is that I thought it meant I was succeeding at 'being American'. But it always felt bad. Like I had to check a part of myself at the door to be accepted. These days I don't try to hide my Asian-ness. Or my gayness. Or the fact that I wasn't born here. And it's become a little easier to speak up when I need to whether to take up space for me or to show up for someone else. Still, I'm a work in progress. We all are. And rather than being paralyzed by my regrets I'm trying to put my energy towards learning how to be better. One day at a time. #asianamericansforblacklives
